Michael Baird recording in Zambia's Western province

Wed Nov 28th 2018 Michael Baird is traveling around Western Province in Zambia, recording beautiful music by the Lozi, Mbunda, Nkoya, and Luvale peoples. So much beautiful music to be found in the villages - good news that there is still so much culture intact. He has found the kangombio lamellophone, silimba xylophone from 12 to 24 notes (this 24-note instrument is gigantic, played by 5 people and with sub-low bass tones), various drums including the large pwita friction drum, mukakash percussion, beautiful vocals by the women and girls, self-made guitars...

New release 'The Sharp Wood Years'
